FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, Germany – October 15, 2024 – Avient Corporation, a premier provider of specialized and sustainable materials solutions and services, is proud to announce the launch of Colorant Chromatics™ Metallic Effect Pre-Colored Sulfone Formulations at the 29th Fakuma International Trade Fair for Plastics Processing, held today through October 19, 2024. This new technology offers enhanced color and aesthetic options with unique metallic effects, meeting the growing demands of high-performance polymer applications with a more sustainable alternative to traditional painting processes.

Various trends continuously shape the aerospace, healthcare, and consumer industries, including the need to reduce weight and volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. Using Colorant Chromatics™ Metallic Effect Pre-Colored Sulfone Formulations, molders can produce parts with a brilliant metallic effect in gold, silver, and bronze without any secondary processing. In contrast to traditional painting processes, injection molding with metallic effect pre-colored thermoplastic materials has lower energy requirements and lower VOC emissions, making these Colorant Chromatics pre-colored solutions more sustainable.

“There is an ongoing market demand for lightweight, high-performance, aesthetically pleasing, and cost-effective solutions with greater sustainability,” said Deborah Sondag, Colorant Chromatics Global Marketing Manager at Avient. “Our newest metallic effect pre-colored sulfone formulations, developed to emulate finishes that use metal without the weight, can help design engineers address these trends by achieving heat and chemical resistance, increasing design freedom, and eliminating the need for secondary processing.”

This new technology also reinforces Avient's collaboration with BASF in offering the global market metallic-colored grades of Ultrason® high-performance polymers. BASF’s Ultrason® polyarylethersulfones (PAES) can provide ultra-high temperature and chemical resistance combined with excellent mechanical performance for parts in industries such as household, aerospace, and healthcare. This makes it an excellent choice for stylish and reusable household and catering applications subject to multiple sterilization cycles and repeated cleaning.

The Fakuma trade fair will place in Friedrichshafen, Germany, from October 15 to 19, 2024. Material experts from Avient will be at booth 5106 in Hall B5 to meet with customers and discuss their material challenges.
